Project

MIZUHO CHALET

Location

Hakuba, Nagano

Scope

Architecture / Concept

A modern house with wooden siding, situated in a lush green field, mountains with snow-capped peaks in the background, and a partly cloudy sky.

A three story Chalet located in Hakuba – a ski town nestled in the mountains north of the city of Nagano. The region is known as a winter sports hub and for its breathtaking views of the “Japanese alps”.

The proposal is offset from the main road and orientated to create framed views of the mountains throughout the building. The design embodies a traditional ski chalet with its selection of warm and natural materials.

We embraced the alpine chic feel by accentuating the light colour of the fabrics and various wood finishes. We kept the lines clean and used a neutral brown palette that brings warmth to the space.
